Individuals

Individuals who volunteer at Blue Jay include High School students, Scouts, environmental educators and stewards of Wake County's natural resources. Opportunities include special events, which are held on various Saturdays during the year (see Winter Open House, Songbird Celebration, and NC Big Sweep) and the occasional Craft Prep day, where volunteers assist Blue Jay staff with preparing craft materials for upcoming events and camps. Some choose to schedule their own unique volunteer opportunity. We always welcome new ideas, and individual volunteers may offer their own special skills that would enhance Blue Jay Point County Park's facilities or programming. To talk with us about volunteer opportunities or to reserve the "Big Sweep" Discovery Box, contact the Blue Jay Center for Environmental Education at 919-870-4330 or email us.

The very best way to keep abreast of upcoming volunteer opportunities is to sign up for Blue Jay's monthly electronic newsletter, the Blue Jay Flyer. Check out the current Blue Jay Flyer E-Newsletter – there is an option to sign up for it at the top of the newsletter!

Groups

Groups who volunteer at Blue Jay include school groups, environmental clubs and organizations, Scout groups, special interest groups and families. Many choose to take part in our annual special events held on Saturdays during various times of the year (see Songbird Celebration, Winter Open House and NC Big Sweep). Other groups choose to come in a series of visits to work on various projects each month.

For a one-time opportunity that is not a special event, many groups choose to borrow our "Big Sweep" Discovery Box and help pick up litter around Falls Lake. To register to volunteer as a group, or to reserve the "Big Sweep" Discovery Box, contact the Blue Jay Center for Environmental Education at 919-870-4330 or email us.

Scouts

Scouts have chosen to complete many Eagle Award Projects at Blue Jay Point County Park over the years. Occasionally the park staff has specific projects that would satisfy the requirements. Scouts are encouraged to submit their own ideas. To find out more information regarding Eagle Scout opportunities, please contact Adam Wood at 919-870-4322 or by email at adam.wood@wake.gov.

We have opportunities for Girl Scouts to compete Bronze and Silver Award Projects connected with our annual special events as well as opportunities for scouts to volunteer to help staff special events as a troop. To inquire about potential projects, please contact Blue Jay Point at bluejaypoint@wake.gov.

Volunteer Service Agreement and Release Form

Volunteer Service Agreement and Release Forms MUST be completed by ALL volunteers and emailed in advance or turned in at the beginning of the volunteer session. Forms will be available on-site, but all unaccompanied minors must bring one already signed by a parent or guardian. A completed and signed Volunteer Service Agreement and Release Form is good for a period of one year and valid for multiple volunteer sessions.
