Play Your Way to K

You and your child can Talk, Sing, Read, Write and Play your way to a successful kindergarten launch! Wake County Public Libraries' Play Your Way to K, is an early learning game that continues the excitement of storytime at home and promotes those early literacy skills essential for a smooth transition to kindergarten.

How do we get started?

Stop by any Wake County Public Library to get the kindergarten readiness game, Play Your Way to K.

How does it work?

  • We will provide a list of creative ways to Play, Read, Sing, Talk and Write with your child.
  • Every time you complete one of the activities, mark it on your gameboard.
  • When you complete the game board, bring it to the library for a prize!
  • Gameboards and prizes are available twice a year. In the fall from September 5 - November 22, 2023 and in the spring from March 18 - May 18, 2024.

Literacy tips are included to guide caregivers as they prepare their children for kindergarten. And the great news is that you can play this game as many times as you like — it’s designed to be modified as young children learn and grow.

Play Your Way to K reinforces key skills of the Every Child Ready to Read® initiative, a project of the American Library Association.
