Community Day rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30
Wake County, along with numerous community partners, are once again hosting a one-stop shop event where families can eat, celebrate and find out about dozens of available resources, including childcare, legal aid and job assistance. This free family-friendly event is set for Saturday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Chavis Community Center, located at 505 Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. in Raleigh.
"Community Day is all about our commitment to ensuring people and families are aware of all the resources available to them at no-cost." said Shinica Thomas, chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “This event is an invitation to embrace new opportunities and make connections with organizations and neighbors.”
Government, non-profit and other community groups will also be there to share information about the services they offer. Local employers actively seeking new talent will also be on-site to share job opportunities and engage with potential candidates. The event intends to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, making it a valuable networking opportunity for those looking to explore new career paths. Those in attendance can enjoy free food and entertainment while getting to know their resources.
Started in 2016, Community Day was created to remove barriers to accessing help, the biggest barrier being people simply don’t know what help is out there. This annual event held each fall is meant to bring all that support to one place, linking families and people of all ages to career, health and social resources. Wake County’s Economic Vitality division heads up organizing the event, collaborating with partners like the City of Raleigh, Wake County Cooperative Extension, Capital Area Workforce Development and NC Works.
The Social and Economic Vitality division, or SEV for short, is a Wake County program that focuses on improving historically underserved communities. The SEV works with Wake County Health & Human services and the NC Cooperative Extension along with local partners to help selected neighborhoods grow and thrive. Their goal is to create more opportunities and better living conditions for everyone in these communities.
