Deadline for registration/voter updates is Friday, Feb. 9

The Wake County Board of Elections is reminding residents the voter registration deadline for the upcoming primaries in what is expected to be a record-breaking election year is just four days away, on Friday, Feb. 9. Anyone wishing to make their voice heard in the upcoming 2024 Primary should not delay ensuring they can vote in the upcoming presidential, congressional, state and county races.

“Wake County is a very transient community – people move in and out and there have also been many district boundary updates recently, so even if you think your voter registration is up to date, it’s always a good idea to verify your information online,” said Olivia McCall, Wake County Board of Elections director. “If you have moved since the last time you voted, now is the time to update your voter registration. It takes just a couple of minutes and helps make sure everything goes smoothly on Election Day.”

Voters can check their voter information here: View My Voter Information | Wake County Government. To register or update your voter information, you need to fill out a one-page form. The signed form must be:

• Postmarked by Feb. 9 and mailed to Wake County Board of Elections, P.O. Box 695, Raleigh, N.C. 27602;
• Delivered to the Wake County Board of Elections Office at 1200 N. New Hope Road in Raleigh by 5 p.m. on Feb. 9;
• Printed and signed, scanned or photographed, and emailed to voter@wake.gov by 5 p.m. on Feb. 9;
• Faxed to 919-231-5737 by 5 p.m. on Feb. 9; or
• You can register or update your information at any Wake County Public Library by 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.
   

If you have a valid North Carolina Driver License or identification card from the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, you can also register to vote or update your information on the DMV’s website. This is a free and standalone service of the DMV.

Voters who want to change their party affiliation before this year’s primary election must also do so by Friday, Feb. 9. North Carolina recognizes five political parties: the Democratic Party, the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, the No Labels Party and the Republican Party.

In a partisan primary, voters affiliated with a political party may only vote their party’s ballot and may not vote in another party’s primary. This remains true even if the party you are affiliated with does not have a primary, such as the No Labels Party and the Green Party in 2024. Unaffiliated voters will be able to choose either a Democratic, Republican or Libertarian primary ballot. Voters can view the candidate lists and see sample ballots at wake.gov/upcomingelection.

Any eligible 17-year-old residents who will turn 18 on or before Nov. 5 can also register now and vote in the upcoming March 5 Primary.
