Wake County Delays Opening until Noon Thursday due to Winter Weather

With icy conditions predicted throughout the morning tomorrow, Wake County Manager David Ellis has decided to delay opening county facilities until noon. This includes public libraries, parks, solid waste facilities and other county services.

“Based on the current forecast, Wake County could see ice accumulating on the roads until midday tomorrow,” said Ellis. “The safety of our residents and employees is our top priority, so I’ve made the decision to delay opening, as well as adjust our COVID-19 testing and vaccination operations.”

Impacts to Vaccination

The wintry weather has also caused the county to cancel its drive-thru vaccination site at PNC Arena on Feb. 18. The county will move all appointments scheduled for Thursday to Monday, Feb. 22. Anyone scheduled to get the shot tomorrow who is not available to get vaccinated Monday should contact our COVID-19 call center at 888-675-4567.

Vaccinations were not scheduled to start until noon on Thursday at the Wake County Commons Building and our Sunnybrook facility, so those appointments will continue as planned. If anyone with an appointment needs to reschedule due to the weather, they should also reach out to our COVID-19 call center.

Impacts to Testing

All Wake County COVID-19 testing locations will delay opening until noon on Thursday. For a list of sites, please visit our COVID-19 testing webpage.
