The public is invited to get a lot of love for just a little green next week by taking advantage of St. Patrick’s Day discounts at the Wake County Animal Center!

From March 12 through March 18, adoption fees will be reduced for adult dogs and cats. It will cost just $25 to take home a dog, and you can name your price for cats. Right now, 31 dogs and 9 cats are waiting in the shelter to find their forever homes. Another 7 dogs and 12 cats are in foster care ready for adoptions.

“This is the time to get lucky! With such a low adoption fee and the cutest pets in our shelter, we’re sure you’ll find your lucky charm,” said Vickie Adamson, Wake County Commissioner.

While all of us adore puppies and kittens, adult pets are a great choice for adoption because they have already settled into those traits and personalities, so that helps take the guesswork out of wondering how they’ll fit in with your family or lifestyle. Adopting from foster care families can also make the transition easier since foster parents can share what to expect after living with these dogs and cats in their homes.

"I was so excited to adopt a new dog myself earlier this month when the center was in danger of reaching capacity, but as we can see, it only takes a few weeks for the number of animals needing families to climb again," said Maria Cervania, Wake County Commissioner. "We hope our community will check out the pets available and take advantage of this discount - like me, they won't regret adopting!"

The Wake County Animal Center is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Ave. in Raleigh.

The Wake County Animal Center is the only open admission shelter in Wake County that never turns away animals, including stray, abandoned and surrendered pets. The shelter treats and re-homes thousands of homeless animals every year.
