Indoor and curbside service will be available
Wake County is opening a new location and simplifying its sign-up process to ensure residents continue to have free and easy access to COVID-19 testing through the winter months.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, Wake County Public Health will add a new location for free COVID-19 testing at 5809 Departure Drive, located in northeast Raleigh off the I-540 Outer Beltline and Capital Boulevard near Triangle Town Center. Testing will run next week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 1-4 and, going forward, weekdays during the same hours.
Through a partnership with Radeas, testing will also continue at the Sunnybrook Building parking deck, located in eastern Raleigh at 2925 Holston Lane. The service will run Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We’re committed to making sure access isn’t an issue for anyone who needs a COVID-19 test in Wake County, especially for our residents at higher risk of serious illness,” Wake County Medical Director Dr. Kim McDonald said.
The Sunnybrook Building parking deck will continue to offer drive-thru service, while 5809 Departure Drive will offer testing indoors in anticipation of colder temperatures and winter weather. Curbside service will be available for residents who have limited mobility or young children in the car, as well as those showing symptoms of COVID-19 to avoid their spreading the disease to others by coming into the building.
In addition to the main testing sites, Wake County is working with community partners to provide testing opportunities around the county at convenient locations, such as churches, parks and other popular community sites. Radeas will maintain testing at its Wake Forest site independent of Wake County after Dec. 5; fees may apply.
Streamlining Sign-Ups
Wake County Public Health will also simplify the process residents use to sign up for a test starting Dec. 1.
With the move to 5809 Departure Drive, Wake County will no longer require residents to complete a detailed registration form ahead of their test. Instead, they will only need to schedule an appointment and come to the testing site with an ID, such as a driver’s license, voter registration card, passport or utility bill. Appointments will be broken into 15-minute time slots. Wake County will not turn away anyone who comes for a test. Wait times may be longer around the holidays.
Radeas will not require appointments or advance registration for testing in the Sunnybrook Building parking deck.
