Child Support – How Long Does the Process Take?

The time it takes to process child support cases varies.

Each case is different, and many factors may impact the time it takes to establish an order.  The more information you are able to provide, the less time it will take.  You are the best source of information.

Some factors that will affect your case are:

  • The time it takes to verify the location and employment of the noncustodial parent;
  • The degree of legal difficulty of your case;
  • Whether paternity is at issue;
  • Whether court action is necessary; and
  • Whether the noncustodial parent is actively avoiding location and/or legal service.
