Energy Camp

Virtual Energy Camp_2021

Virtual field trips, talks with experts and hands-on experiments with Wake County public school teachers – all from home!

For 28 years, Wake County Energy Camp has been a place for campers to participate in a week's worth of wonderful energy-themed activities. Due to the risk of COVID-19, the Wake County Energy Commission again offered this year’s camp online for free.

Each day from Monday, July 12, until Friday, July 16, we posted new virtual field trips, hosted guest speakers, and demonstrated energy experiments kids can do at home. Students heading into the 4th, 5th and 6th grades will get the most out of the material. The resources are posted below, so you can access them at your own pace. Many activities can be completed with materials found around the house.

Also below are recordings of live question-and-answer sessions from almost every day with Wake County Public School System teachers and special guests. Virtual Energy Camp presenters included Wake County Solid Waste Management, Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant, Southern Energy Management and Beech Bluff County Park.

Explore your scientific curiosity, try the hands-on activities and look for information next year on the 2022 Energy Camp!
