2007 Wake County Bond Referenda

Wake County Public Libraries $45 Million

New branch libraries:

  • Middle Creek
  • Morrisville
  • North Hills

Expand/replace existing branch libraries:

  • Cary
  • Fuquay-Varina
  • Wake Forest

Repairs and/or renovations:

  • East Regional (Knightdale)
  • Southeast Regional (Garner)
  • Green Road, Olivia Raney, Richard B. Harrison, Wendell and Zebulon branches

Wake County Technical Community College $92 Million

Funds will be used to:

  • Construct a new building at Northern Wake Campus to offer classes in financial services, pervasive computing and informatics
  • Build a new facility at the Health Sciences Campus to train more nurses, radiology/MRI technicians and other allied health professionals
  • Renovate Public Safety facility on Chapanoke Road for law enforcement, EMS and fire safety office training
  • Repair or renovate several buildings on the Main Campus, including the Library Education, Mechanical Technology and Student Services buildings

Wake County Open Space Program $50 Million

Highlights of purchases using previous bond funds in partnerships with others:

  • Wake Forest - Joyner Farm, 117 acres, and Clinebelle tract, 68 acres
  • Raleigh - Swift Creek corridor, 260 acres (important to water supply and quality), and Angell Property (Falls Lake area), 216 acres
  • Holly Springs - 9-acre addition to Bass Lake Park
  • Garner - 36-acre addition to White Deer Park
  • Morrisville - RTP tract, 18 acres (in Jordan Lake Watershed)
  • Cary - White Oak Church Road, 116 acres (in Jordan Lake Watershed)
  • Apex - Holleman tract (to be used in connection with American Tobacco Trail)
  • State of North Carolina - 252 acres to expand Clemmons Educational State Forest into Wake County
  • Several purchases totaling 800 acres in the Marks Creek area.  Protection of this watershed area is in partnership with the Trust for Public Lands and the Triangle Land Conservancy
