Tips for Locating a Lost Pet

Check the Animal Center daily!

You should come to the animal center and continue to check out our gallery daily for incoming animals.  Our gallery can be found at pets.wakegov.com - it is updated every 30 minutes.

Triangle Lost Pets website

Many people who find stray pets will post them on the website, trianglelostpets.org.  You should also post your pet as lost on the website so if someone finds your pet, they can contact you!

Nextdoor Website/App

Since many animals will stay within close proximity to their home, posting your lost pet on your neighborhood's Nextdoor site will let your neighbors know that you are looking for your pet.  Also, check to see if anyone has seen your pet or has already found your pet!

What to Do if you Find a Lost Pet

If you CAN handle the pet easily and safely ...

You can check to see if the pet is wearing any ID tags with a phone number for the owner.  If you are comfortable doing so, you can also transport the lost pet to a nearby veterinarian's office and ask for them to scan the pet for a microchip.  Both of these options will help get the pet back to their family.

If you CANNOT handle the pet safely and easily ...

First, take a picture of the stray pet.  You can post this pet and the location where you have seen the pet on trianglelostpets.org as well as your Nextdoor site. Next, you can call your local Animal Control Unit for assistance.  Please see our Animal Control page for phone numbers.
