The Mission House For Women
Drusilla's Story
Drusilla is originally from Winston-Salem, NC is 46
years old and currently lives in Cary. She is a mother of a 30-year-old
daughter and has an 11-year-old grandson. Drusilla has an older
sister and both parents are deceased. She appreciates her past and
is grateful for the present. As a single mom, she went back to school
and earned her LPN license.
At the age of 17 she began drinking alcohol and using
drugs. After using for a while, she got cleaned in 1989 and remained
that way for 3½ years. She became involved with the wrong
crowd and began to drink and use again which caused her to be incarcerated.
While incarcerated her spirit was broken and she could not stay
clean. She entered treatment center after treatment center. The
last time, she ended in prison with GOD. He came into her heart
and asked, "What are you going to do now?" By this time,
she had lost her job and nursing license. Her former employer, who
had been in the Twelve Step Addiction Program, suggested that maybe
she should go into a halfway house.
She tried contacting every halfway house and was told
there was no availability. Drusilla was at her last end and attempted
suicide when her former employer mentioned "Gloria Lowe and
The Mission House for Women". A contact was made with the Mission
House for Women and she was accepted into the program after being
clean for six days. Since that time, she hasn't picked up a drink
nor used any drugs with a clean date since October 17, 2001.
The Mission House for Women has restored Drusilla's
life. She learned to deal with a lot of issues in her life with
the assistance of Gloria Lowe, the Founder and Director of the Mission
House for Women as well as a license psychologist. Through the Mission
House for Women, Drusilla continues one-on-one treatments with her
counselor at ATC, who has been a blessing in her life. She has had
the opportunity to obtain a relationship with the GOD of her understanding
and learned to feed her spirit on a daily basis with spiritual encouragement.
Because of her steadfastness of continued trust, willingness and
hard work to achieve she has been transitioned to the second phase
of the Mission House for Women called "The Almost There Program".
Drusilla has learned how to be a respectable, productive,
and responsible member of society. She attends Bibleway Church,
under the spiritual direction of Bishop Darnell Dixon. She has established
a working relationship with her Twelve Step sponsor as she works
through the steps of recovery. She began the process of obtaining
a nursing license again, which she successfully completed and received
her license on July 24, 2003. She was employed by Honey Baked Ham
and is currently a full time employee of Dorothea Dix Hospital,
in the area of Environmental Services.
She has been able to purchase a car through the Wheels
of Hope Program as a direct result of the Mission House for Women.
She has established a savings account on her own and one of her
goals is to purchase a home or condominium.
Her hopes and dreams are coming true because
of the love and care of Gloria Lowe, Founder and Director of The
Mission House for Women and The Almost There Program and the women
of both houses. She thanks GOD for doing for her, what she could
not do for herself.
