Registered Contractor Information


Well Contractors

All persons, firms or corporations engaging in well contractor activities involving wells for irrigation, private or semipublic domestic use in Wake County shall register with the Wake County Department of Environmental Services (DES). Drillers who engage in the construction of geothermal heat exchange injection wells are required to be registered with DES and be certified by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association. Well Contractors must operate and be certified in accordance with 15A NCAC 27 Well Certification Rules, Sections .0100-.0900 and post a continuing and automatically renewing original Performance Bond in the sum of $10,000 with DES as beneficiary.

Pump Installers

All persons, firms or corporations in the business of installing, replacing or repairing pumps or other equipment in Wake County shall register with DES. Pump installers must be registered with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Division of Water Quality before registration may be accomplished within Wake County.

Independent Water Samplers

Every person, firm or corporation collecting confirmation samples shall register annually with DES. Only representatives of DES, certified laboratory representatives, registered sanitarians, certified well operators, or others approved by DES will qualify.
