Underground Utility Location

In an effort to provide the best service possible to the residents of Wake County, and in the interests of time and safety, Wake County Department of Environmental Services (WCDES) requests that all underground utilities be located prior to a site visit being made.  The location of the underground utilities is necessary information needed for WCDES to complete all permits and site evaluations quickly and accurately.  The service is free when you call North Carolina 811 at 811 or 1-800-632-4949.  Please allow 48 hours for the utilities to be located.  Please note that North Carolina 811 will NOT identify underground water lines and therefore it will be the owner’s responsibility for having those properly located prior to a site visit being made.

Wake County will not be responsible for any unmarked underground utilities hit or damaged while performing a site evaluation.  Please call WCDES 919-856-7400 or the inspector listed on the permit when underground utilities have been located.  Thank you for your cooperation with these requests.
