Durham VA Medical Center Invites Local Veterans to Learn More about VA Health Care

Wake County Veterans May be Eligible for Enrollment

Representatives from the Durham VA Medical Center and Wake County Veterans Office will host a Veterans Health Fair July 6 at the A. A. Thompson Center, 567 East Hargett Street, in Raleigh, N.C. A multifunctional team will be on-site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to meet with local Veterans who have questions about Veterans Affairs (VA) health care. The team will help former service members get into the VA health care system, obtain appointments with health care providers, and access other VA benefits.
VA provides safe, high quality health care to America’s heroes. “We are working hard to educate Veterans, both women and men, on the VA healthcare benefits they have earned by serving in the military,” said Bobbie Brooker, Rural Health Program Manager from the Durham VA Medical Center. This event will provide information about service connected disability claims and the resources available to Veterans in making these claims.
Whether you served in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, or the National Guard, you may be entitled to benefits from VA. Veterans are encouraged to bring copies of their DD-214 (discharge/report of separation) or other proof of service to help in the enrollment process. Representatives will help obtain these documents and will provide information about many of the programs available through the VA health care system.
Wake County is home to an estimated 16,600 Veterans. Last year, about 5,200 Veterans were enrolled at the Durham VA Medical Center. This event will provide information on VA health care and other VA benefits including medication prescriptions, registry examinations, and disability benefits.
All former service members, family members, and Veterans are welcome to attend on a walk-in basis. Please visit http://www.durham.va.gov/rural_health.asp or call toll-free 888-878-6890, extension 3276, to obtain an enrollment packet if you are unable to attend the event.
