The 2014 Capital Area Veterans Stand Down is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2014, at the South Wilmington Street Center. Planning is under way and more information will be added to this site in an ongoing process once finalized by the planning committee.
2013 Capital Area Veterans Stand Down Recap:
The Stand Down held on October 18 received good reviews from participants and service providers. There were 284 registered participants and 151 service providers covering 40 programs. Planning is under way for next year's Stand Down.
We are one week away from the Stand Down. Providers have been confirmed. Due to the Federal Government shutdown Social Security and Representative Constituents may not attend if the shutdown continues. All other providers will attend. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. The parking lot will be blocked off, so attendees must park on the street. Registration tents will be located at the base of the ramp, and an information folder will be given to participants and providers detailing the event activities.
The stage and podium for the opening ceremony will be reconfigured to better use the cafeteria space. Opening Ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m.
Breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m., so all providers who want breakfast must arrive by then. Providers should be arriving by 8 a.m. to register and set up to be ready to go by 8:30 a.m. Providers must give a head count of who is coming from your agency so an adequate number of chairs and tables can be provided.
An itinerary of the events will be finalized by the next meeting.
Proclamations will be sent to the County Commissioners and Raleigh City Council.
Invitation letters have been sent out to dignitaries.
Wake County Commissioners Chair Joe Bryan has been confirmed to speak at the opening ceremony.
Patricia Harris, Women Veteran's Support Services, has been confirmed to speak at the opening ceremony.
We are still in need of one dentist for the dental clinic.
We are still in need of a Color Guard for the opening ceremony.
Raleigh radio stations 100.7 FM and 106.1 FM will begin public service announcements for the Stand Down 10 to 14 days prior to the event.
The majority of providers will be located inside of SWSC. Outside providers will be the Vet Center Bus, the Dental Bus, and clothing donations. Most of the providers have been confirmed. We are still waiting on Legal Aid and dentists. PR/Media will now be increased to advertise the event. Radio and television stations will be contacted.
A formal letter will be sent out to invite providers to the Stand Down.
Devone is in contact with Patricia Harris about the Stand Down.
Posters have been handed out to committee members.
The Facebook page for the Stand Down is being updated after each meeting. Search Facebook under Veterans Stand Down and look for Raleigh, NC. There will be a photo with a soldier silhouetted on an American flag.

The Dental Bus has been confirmed and a $200 deposit will need to be paid ASAP to keep the reservation. Two dentists and two hygienists are needed to volunteer.
