PODCAST: Listen to Wake County Live radio show with County Manager David Cooke and Triangle Transit General Manager David King discussing transit.
Triangle Transit, in collaboration with Wake County, local municipalities, regional planning organizations, state and federal agencies and the public, continues to evaluate new and improved mass transit services with the goal of creating a regional rail transit system and significant expansion of the bus-way network to address the region’s transportation needs. Triangle Transit has initiated the next phase of this effort by beginning the Alternatives Analysis process. This process is the study of regional rail investment opportunities within the area’s rail corridors. The corridor study area spans Orange, Durham and Wake counties and will provide a comprehensive analysis of rail line corridors. This becomes the region’s document for submittal to the Federal Transportation Administration to seek federal monetary participation.
A key component of the Alternatives Analysis process is to establish and implement a broad-reaching public input plan that considers regional transportation needs. To guide this effort, Triangle Transit has formed a steering committee composed of regional representatives who have technical expertise and related knowledge to contribute to the planning and implementation of the public input process.
The first series of public meetings have been scheduled throughout the region. Each public meeting will provide valuable information related to the transit vision and current plans, implementation, next steps, and opportunity for public comment and input.
