Fall 2016 Big Sweep Is Here!

Got Gloves? Roll up your sleeves and volunteer for Wake County Big Sweep! Volunteers are needed to remove litter from Wake County's streams, lakes, wetlands and greenways! There are 18 cleanups starting on September 10 through November 5. Check the 2016 Fall Big Sweep Calendar here and then register directly with the Zone Captain or park at the litter cleanup of your choice! Thank you for volunteering for Wake County Big Sweep to make our environment litter free!

You may be surprised at the amount of agricultural land that still exists in Wake County. View the full-sized map and see just how much.
Hint: Wake County Soil and Water Conservation Department's workload covers 121,631 rural acres, which is more than the ENTIRE county of Chowan. Wake's Soil and Water Conservation Department staff has a workload greater than 54 counties in North Carolina, where Wake is ranked 46th in cash revenues for agriculture (2012 Cash receipts, NCDA&CS).

  • Cost Share funds are available for conservation practices that improve water quality through State and Federal sources, only available through the District.
  • Wake Soil and Water Conservation District holds conservation easements to help families conserve farm and forest lands for their legacy.

Enjoy live music, food trucks, kids' activities, raffle prizes, and a magician!
See turtles that have been healed after being entangled in litter!
All donations – large or small – will go to the nonprofit Friends of Wake Soil and Water Conservation District. Donations are needed for cleanup supplies and Big Sweep program needs. Wake County Big Sweep has mobilized volunteers in removing TONS of unwanted and unhealthy litter for 25+ years! We hope to see you there!
