N.C. Concealed Carry – 8 hours

Fee: $80

This course is required to receive a permit to carry a concealed handgun in NC.  A course certificate is provided and must be presented to the sheriff in the county of residence when applying for a Concealed Carry Handgun (CCH) permit. The course includes classroom instruction reviewing handgun safety and operation, concealed carry techniques and the current NC laws on the use of deadly force. A 200-page textbook is provided to each student. At the end of the course there is an open-book written test and a shooting qualification exercise with targets at 3, 5 and 7 yards from the shooter. The course of fire requires 50 rounds of ammunition to complete. Individuals new to shooting should consider taking a pistol instruction course before taking this course. Ownership of a handgun is recommended.

Introduction to Pistol Shooting – 4 hours

Fee: $50

This 4-hour course provides an introduction to handgun safety and how to develop shooting skills. It is designed for beginning handgun shooters that would like to become familiar with various types of handguns. Course topics include: pistol safety, parts and operation; an introduction to ammunition; the fundamentals of pistol shooting and information on the care and cleaning of a pistol. A textbook is provided. There is a 1½ hour range exercise shooting a pistol from the bench rest position; handguns and ammunition are provided or students may bring their own handguns.

Basic Pistol Shooting 101 – 8 hours    

Fee: $80     

This course is a more in-depth basic handgun course than the Introduction to Pistol Shooting course described above. It is designed for individuals that have recently purchased a handgun or plan to purchase one in the near future. The course covers all of the topics in the 4-hour course in more detail plus instruction on shooting from the benchrest and two-handed standing positions. The same textbook used in the Introduction course is used in this course. Students will have approximately 3 hours of range time with instructors. Ownership of a handgun is not required; handguns and ammunition are provided if student does not have their own.

Personal Protection in Home Defense – 8 hours

Fee: $80

This course provides additional training after the Basic Pistol or Concealed Carry course. It is for individuals with basic experience in handgun shooting who want to focus on the use of a handgun for personal protection in their home or business. Lessons include defensive shooting, basic defensive handgun skills, firearms and the law, strategies for home safety; responding to a violent confrontation, and selecting a handgun for self-defense. Students will need their own handguns and 100 rounds of ammunition. There will be approximately 3 hours of range shooting in home defense scenarios.

Personal Protection Outside the Home – 8 hours

Fee: $80

This intermediate level handgun course offers classroom and range training for carrying a handgun in public. It provides students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home. Students will need a strong-side hip holster that covers the trigger, or a holster purse designed for concealed carry, at least one handgun and extra magazines or revolver speed loaders.

The student will receive instruction on carrying a concealed handgun and the proper techniques for drawing and shooting a handgun from concealment. There is approximately 4 hours of classroom training followed by 4 hours of shooting exercises on the range. The student will shoot approximately 150 rounds of ammunition in various range exercises. Participants must be at least 21 years of age and possess basic pistol shooting skills. Participants must know and observe not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations.

Defensive Pistol  I – 8 hours

Fee: $75

A course designed for novice to intermediate pistol shooters seeking to improve their skill level. The classroom portion will cover aspects of defensive shooting engagements and the afternoon portion will be spent on the range building shooting skills. The goal of the course is for the students to become more proficient in various personal protection and concealed carry type scenarios. Students should have completed the Introduction to Pistol Shooting or the Basic Pistol  101 course, or the N.C. Concealed Carry Course, or equivalent training. Students will need to bring their handgun, 3 magazines or speed loaders, a strong side holster and 250 rounds of ammunition.

Defensive Pistol II — 8 hours

Fee: $75

This course is for the experienced shooter that is looking to take their skills to an advanced level.  The course is focused on real world defensive applications of the handgun.  Students will be be able to shoot in multiple scenarios.  Prerequisite for the class is one of the following: a demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a pistol (we will not be teaching how to shoot); completion of the Defensive Pistol I or the Personal Protection Outside the Home course, or holding the NRA Distinguished Expert in Pistol, or active participant in IDPA, USPSA, NRA Action Pistol or similar.   Students are required to bring a pistol with at least 3 magazines or speed loaders, belt mounted magazine holder, strong side holster, and 400 rounds of ammunition.  A tactical flashlight and cover garment are optional.  Most of the time will be spent on the range so appropriate attire should be worn.

First Steps Rifle - Introduction to Rifle Shooting — 4 hours            

Fee: $50

A 4-hour course that provides an introduction to rifle safety, handling and shooting skills. The course is designed for beginning rifle shooters. The topics include: rifle safety, parts and operation; an introduction to ammunition and the fundamentals of rifle shooting; an introduction to shooting a rifle from the bench rest position, and an introduction to rifle cleaning. Ownership of a rifle is not required; rifles and ammunition are provided. An excellent course for young people and adults interested in learning how to shoot a rifle.

Basic Defensive Shotgun I – 4 hours

Fee: $50

A 4-hour introduction to defensive shotgun shooting. The course is designed for beginner shotgun shooters and individuals who have purchased a shotgun for home defense. Course topics include safety procedures, loading and unloading a shotgun, equipment and ammunition selection, cleaning and storage. Students will spend approximately 1½ hours on the range in basic shooting exercises. Students will need a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun for the class.

Basic Defensive Shotgun II – 4 hours

Fee: $50

A 4-hour follow-up course to Basic Defensive Shotgun I above. The course is for individuals who have experience shooting a shotgun. It provides training for various defensive scenarios that may occur in home defense. Course topics include shooting positions, handling malfunctions, use of cover and concealment, and shooting while moving. Students will spend approximately 3 hours on the range participating in various shotgun drills. Students will need a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun for the class.

Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading – 8 hours

Fee: $80

The reloading course provides students with the fundamentals on metallic (rifle and pistol) cartridge reloading. It will teach you how to make your own ammunition. The course is designed for shooters with little or no prior experience with reloading. Students will receive a student handbook and reloading information from various manufacturers and will have the opportunity to practice reloading both pistol and rifle cases. Instructors will be available to answer questions from students when setting up their own reloading equipment after they have completed the course.
