The "Wake County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Adventure Camp" is a camp designed for middle school children. It is an outreach program developed to help students become more aware of law enforcement functions and gain a better understanding of the criminal forces they will face as they mature.

Our School Resource Officers plan and conduct the camp each year, which allows them to maintain a good working relationship over the summer with their students. Our campers observe presentations made by K9 officers, drug interdiction team, Patrol units, and crime prevention officers.

Students are given the opportunity to understand what it is like for someone to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, through the use of simulator devices. Students learn how drug dogs can search and identify illegal substances. They go on field trips to the detention facilities to see the conditions of incarceration. They learn about firearms, firearm safety, and about various special operations of the Sheriff's Office.

This camp is designed for kids who might someday have an interest in law enforcement as a career. It will provide each student with classroom instruction on a host of law-related topics such as drug prevention courses, mock court trials and leadership skills. We are also going to mix in some practical exercises to make the two weeks not only educational but also enjoyable.

There is no financial charge for this opportunity; however, transportation is required daily to and from the Law Enforcement Training Center. There will be deputies at the academy from 7:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.; please plan to make any necessary arrangements to pick up your child prior to 4:30 p.m. Lunches and snacks will also be provided every day.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office Adventure Camp is not a "Scared Straight" or a disciplinary camp for undisciplined juveniles but is designed to be a fun and educational camp for students who have an interest in a career as a Law Enforcement Officer.
