Anti-Litter Initiatives
Roadside litter, whether deliberate or unintentional, is an unsightly problem for us all. Wake County is prepared to confront this problem and, with the help and participation of school groups, can maintain a litter-free county.
With increasing public interest and involvment in environmental education and stewardship, people everywhere are starting to understand that keeping our natural world clean is everyone's responsibility. FEED THE BIN School Recycling Program has several ways that school groups can participate in to help keep Wake County litter-free.

In Spring 2009 five WCPSS high schools piloted gooseneck trash cans on their school's campus in efforts to lower litter levels and rates at their school. This pilot proved a success, and we would like to thank the schools involved: Apex High, Broughton High, Holly Springs High, Leesville High, and Wake Forest-Rolesville High.

FEED THE BIN has a program aimed at elementary-aged classes or groups: the Litter Academy. This program allows students to become "Litter Deputies" by engaging in peer-to-peer education opportunities on their school's campus in order to help reduce the litter problem in schools and the county.
