Convenience Centers are trash and recycling drop-off stations open to all Wake County residents.
 
NOTICE: Convenience Center #8 in Wake Forest is CLOSED for construction now through Friday, August 28. Please use an alternate Convenience Center location.
 
Convenience Center #4 on Yates Mill Pond is under construction; service delays may occur. Please take bulky waste and construction debris to an alternate Convenience Center site.

Operations Hours:
  • Daily from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to Wake County residents only
  • Closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve (at noon) and Christmas Day
Locations:
  • Site 1:10505 Old Stage Road, Raleigh [map] This site is under construction; please take construction and demolition waste to an alternate location.
  • Site 2: 6025 Old Smithfield Road, Apex [map]
  • Site 3: 266 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville [map]
  • Site 4: 3600 Yates Mill Pond Road, Raleigh [map] This site is under construction; please take bulky waste and construction debris to an alternate location.
  • Site 5: 8401 Battle Bridge Road, Raleigh [map]
  • Site 6: 3913 Lillie Liles Road, Wake Forest [map]
  • Site 7: 9024 Deponie Drive, Raleigh [map]  
  • Site 8: 2001 Durham Road/Hwy. 98, Wake Forest [map] – This site is currently closed for construction. Please take recyclables and bulky waste to Site 7.
  • Site 9: 3337 New Hill-Holleman Road, New Hill [map]
  • Site 10: 5216 Knightdale-Eagle Rock Road, Knightdale [map] 
  • Site 11: 5051 Wendell Blvd./Business 64, Wendell [map]

Unacceptable items:
  • Concrete
  • Commercial, industrial and institutional waste
  • Burning or smoldering material
  • White goods – Such as washers/dryers, stoves, refrigerators, water heaters and air conditioners – accepted at no charge for recycling at either Multi-Material Drop-Off Facility.
  • Lead-acid batteries – Accepted at no charge for recycling at either Multi-Material Drop-Off Facility.
  • Scrap tires – Accepted at either Multi-Material Drop-Off Facility. For five tires or fewer, there is no charge for passenger vehicle or truck tires.
  • Yard waste 
  • Stumps/logs
  • Household hazardous waste – Such as pesticides/herbicides, chemicals and poisons – accepted at both Household Hazardous Waste Facilities.
  • Infectious waste/untreated, regulated medical waste – Cannot, by law, be disposed in Sanitary Landfills.
  • Radioactive waste – Cannot, by law, be disposed in Sanitary Landfills. Consult the product's manufacturer for proper disposal suggestions or contact the North Carolina Division of Radiation Protection at 919-571-4141. Smoke detectors, which have a small amount of radioactive material, should be returned to the manufacturer for proper disposal. (Check inside the detector for company name and address.)
  • Liquid waste – Companies capable of properly disposing of this waste can be found in the online or in the phone book under "Hazardous Materials and Waste Contractors." If the product is not hazardous, please refer to the manufacturer's directions for proper disposal suggestions.
  • Used motor oil – Accepted at no charge for recycling at either Multi-Material Drop-Off Facility
  • Sewage plant sludge – This is not accepted for disposal. Contact the Permits and Engineering Unit, Water Quality Section, State Division of Environmental Management at 919-733-5083.
  • Drums – Drums that have been punctured so as to contain no free liquid are accepted for disposal at the Convenience Centers, Landfill or Transfer Station. Burn barrels containing debris are not accepted.
  • Tanks – Refer to the manufacturer of fuel or gas tanks for proper disposal suggestions. Propane tanks are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Facilities.
  • Dead animals – Accepted only at the South Wake Landfill so long as they are not microbiological and/or pathological waste.
Please note that:
  • All open-body vehicles transporting waste must be secured to prevent blown and spilled debris.
  • No person may loiter or rummage about the facility or remove articles from any containers. Violators will be prosecuted.
  • Children & pets must remain in vehicles at all times.
