Commercial Waste Reduction Grants
Wake County Solid Waste Management is accepting Commercial Waste Reduction Grant applications. Organizations looking to increase their involvement in waste prevention efforts and decrease the amount of waste sent to landfills are encouraged to apply. Up to $10,000 is available for innovative commercial waste reduction projects. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008.

2008 Recipients
- Wake Technical Community College will improve and expand their already existing recycling program to include beverage container and paper-recycling in academic buildings at all campus locations.
- Capital Area Soccer League in Raleigh will use funding to implement a beverage container recycling program at the WRAL Soccer Center.
- Environmental Control, Triangle, an office-cleaning provider in Raleigh, will use funding to expand its services to include recycling of office materials.
- Kraft Family YMCA in Holly Springs will open their facility this spring with a brand new recycling program for beverage containers and paper.
- Waste Management Recycle America will enhance their environmental education center at their material recovery facility in Raleigh, with educational panels explaining the importance of recycling and the process that occurs when materials are recycled.
2007 Recipients
- RBC Center – to offset the cost of recycling containers and signage associated with the development of a stadium-wide container recycling program.
- Inter-Faith Food Shuttle – to offset the cost of equipment used to move reusable food products from tractor-trailers, allowing the organization to move an additional 40,000 lbs. of food per week.
- Pro Forma Triangle Print Services – to promote and encourage customers to use recycled-content products.
- Whole Foods – to offset the costs associated with starting a food waste collection program.
2006 Recipients
- American Recyclers – grant funds helped with the purchase of a generator for the mobile paper shredding and recycling company.
- Clean Green – startup for an oil filter collection and recycling program, including a box truck and marketing materials.
- Habitat Reuse Center – purchase materials made from recycled content products used in the construction of their new facility.
- Rowland Landfill – purchase equipment for new concrete crushing plant.
2005 Recipient
- Paper Stock Dealers – for the development of an environmental education center at their Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Raleigh.
2004 Recipients
- Carolina Mudcats – implement, educate and market a stadium-wide recycling program for aluminum cans, glass, cardboard and paper products.
- Glenaire Retirement Community – expand their recycling efforts beyond aluminum, glass, plastic and paper to implement a food waste composting program.
- Tyco Electronics – purchased compartmentalized recycling containers to expand their recycling program to include plastic and glass, also implementing an educational campaign for employees.
2003 Recipients
- N.C. State University – to implement a recycling program at Carter-Finley Stadium.
- Urban Ministries – to compost nonedible food waste from their food pantry.
