Hammond Road Jail

As Wake County continues to grow, population estimates indicate that Wake County's population will surpass Mecklenburg County's by 2013.  A 2007 population of over 800,000 is expected to grow to over 1.4 million by 2030.  Common sense tells us that population growth influences court fillings which in turn affect the number of detention beds needed.  Based upon a variety of factors, Wake County's current bedspaces of 1,312 is expected to grow to a need of 3,111 by 2030.  In order to meet this growth in neccessary bedspaces, Wake County has embarked upon a planned expansion of the Hammond Road Detention Center - in phases.

Phase 2 is currently in the design process.  Schematic Design has been reviewed and approved by the Board of Commission.
