The Wake County Facilities Design & Construction (FD&C) Department plans and implements Wake County's capital improvement program. The department manages the planning, design and construction of all capital improvement projects undertaken by the County (such as new library, fire, EMS, detention, parks, solid waste and human services facilities). Capital projects are directed by experienced project managers, from the planning stages through the construction and warranty phases. All design services, construction work, materials testing and various other services are outsourced to private firms through competitive procurement methods as allowed by NC General Statutes.
This department also manages all real estate acquisition, negotiation of easements, encroachments, land rights and long-term facility leases. Property for public buildings, parks, flood control projects and public reservoirs is acquired through this process. The department manages surveying and mapping services necessary to support these real estate functions as well as all capital projects.
The Facilities Design & Construction Department takes a proactive approach to build successful partnerships with other local governments, state and federal institutions, private and nonprofit groups to leverage resources and maximize results from expenditure of County resources.
