NC 50 Corridor Study

NC 50 Corridor Study

NC 50 is a two-lane, regionally significant corridor that passes through an area recognized as the Falls Lake watershed, and serves growing suburban residential populations around I-540 in Raleigh and in the southern part of Granville County near Creedmoor. Continued development and increasing traffic along the entire corridor is anticipated as a result of continued suburban growth into Granville County.

With the support of the NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, NCDOT, and Triangle Transit, a comprehensive study for NC 50 is starting up to look for transportation improvements along NC 50 suitable for implementation at the local and state level, with three primary objectives in mind:

  • Improve transportation mobility and traffic safety along the corridor
  • Preserve the residential and rural nature of the corridor while supporting regional economic development
  • Support activities to protect recreation, water quality and the environment in the Falls Lake watershed.

Fortunately, this partnership is proposed before the roadway’s performance has deteriorated beyond control. The portion of the corridor being considered for study in this project is the 14.5-mile segment between I-540 in Raleigh and NC 56 in Creedmoor.

Public Workshop #1—March 30 and April 1, 2010, 6–8 p.m.
Let your voice be heard. The study team and local municipalities will be holding a set of identical workshops on each end of the corridor to hear your issues and concerns for the corridor.

March 30—Amran Shriners Temple, 11101 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh
April 1—Vance/Granville Community College Southern Campus, 1547 S. Campus Drive, Creedmoor
