There are three boards that advise the county on planning, land use and zoning in Wake County:
The Planning Board

Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment hears and acts on appeals, variances and special uses in Wake County zoning cases.
Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission safeguards the heritage of the County by preserving districts and landmarks that embody important elements of its culture, history, architectural history or prehistory.
