Activity Center Design Guidelines
- The Design Guidelines' goal is to preserve the rural character of Wake County by encouraging higher density and intensity development at activity centers, thereby creating villages.
- The sizes of the Activity Centers, from largest to smallest, are Regional, Community and Neighborhood. Activity Centers will focus compact development in mixed-use village centers that include housing, commercial services and employment opportunities designed with convenient pedestrian and vehicular access from the surrounding development areas.
- Activity Centers are designed to maximize the benefit of public investment in infrastructure and improve the quality of the existing environment.
- Activity Centers emphasize connectivity, transitional development, compatibility of land uses and open spaces that provide public focus and identity for neighborhoods.
