School Enrollment and Projections
School enrollments for Grades K–12 have increased significantly since the mid-1970s. From 1975 through 2005, WCPSS added more than 66,000 new students, more than double its 1975 enrollment. Enrollment increases were modest until the mid-1980s, but have grown rapidly since that time.  Between 2007 and 2010, WCPSS saw enrollment increase by more than 15,217 students.  On the 20th day of Fall 2010, Wake had an enrollment of 143,289 students in its public school system.   

Charter Schools
Wake County has also seen growth in Charter School enrollments. By the 2009–10 academic year, Wake County had 13 charter schools with a 20th-day membership of 6,090 students. 

Postsecondary Education
Wake County also had a high number of residents enrolled in college or graduate school. According to the 2009 American Community Survey, Wake County had an estimated 78,000 residents enrolled in higher education.
