Wake County has experienced explosive growth over the last 30 years. Wake County has witnessed historic increases in population, housing, students and incomes. From 1980 through 2010 the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that Wake County grew by roughly 600,000. The County added nearly 275,000 from 2000 to 2010. Since April 1, 2010, Wake County has added 73,296 residents, a 8.1% increase.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates Wake County to have 974,289 residents, as of July 1, 2013.
