The volunteer program at the Wake County Animal Care, Control & Adoption Center is a necessary part of the everyday life of the animals in our care. In fall 2006, after a careful look at the volunteer program, a Steering Committee was formed and given the task of redeveloping the program to make it more rewarding, not only for the volunteers, but for the many animals whose lives are touched on a daily basis by caring volunteers.

If you are searching for a rewarding experience and love working with animals, we invite you to join us by volunteering in one of our many exciting positions.

Wake County Animal Center needs volunteers who can commit to a consistent schedule. The time and talent of animal-loving volunteers is essential to providing care for shelter animals and finding them new homes. Volunteers improve the quality of life for the animals, whether working directly with the animals, behind the scenes or in public.

All volunteers must complete an application, attend orientation and complete the Basic Animal Handling training course prior to interacting with any animals. For more information, click on the links below:
