About the Volunteer Program
THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering at the Wake County Animal Center. Our volunteer program is a necessary part of the everyday life of the animals in our care. If you are searching for a rewarding experience and love working with animals, we invite you to join us by volunteering in one of our many exciting positions.
The minimum age to volunteer is eighteen (18) years old. All volunteers must attend Orientation and complete the Basic Animal Handling Training session prior to interacting with any animals. The Junior Volunteer Program is for volunteers 13 to 17 years of age to assist with required community service projects.
Wake County Animal Center needs volunteers who can commit to a consistent schedule. The time and talent of animal-loving volunteers is essential to providing care for shelter animals and finding them new homes. Volunteers improve the quality of life for the animals whether working directly with the animals, behind the scenes, or in public. We request that each volunteer commit a minimum of six (6) hours per month for three (3) months.
There is always plenty to do at the Animal Center. Volunteers may choose from the many teams available at the Animal Center. For a complete list,
