The adoption fees for other small animals vary according to their species. This includes rats, mice, hamsters, ferrets, birds, reptiles, and guinea pigs.

All animals are required to undergo spaying/neutering before adoption. If an animal is unable to be spayed/neutered due to health condition or the animal being too small, the animal must be sterilized by a private veterinarian. Owners who have their veterinarian perform the surgery will receive a $50 rebate once proof of sterilization is shown.


1-year Rabies Vaccine

Rabies vaccines are given to animals four months or older that are adopted from our facility. Animals that are unable to receive their rabies vaccine due to age may return when the animal has reached four months of age. All animals that have been held at the shelter are required to have rabies information on file.

We offer rabies shots to privately owned animals several times a year through our Rabies Clinics

Adoption Requirements:

The Wake County Animal Care, Control & Adoption Center reserves the right to deny the adoption of any pet for any reason. If you wish to adopt an animal, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have current and verifiable identification.
  • Live where pets are permitted.
  • Have adoptions completed 15 minutes prior to closing.
