Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the Wake County Animal Center will be accepting incoming animals from the public by appointment only. Please call 919-212-7387 to schedule an appointment before coming to the center.

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Adoption Floor will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m.
for anyone looking to adopt a pet.

The Wake County Animal Center is an open-admission animal shelter operated by Wake County. We receive all stray, abandoned & surrendered pets in Wake County. We work in partnership with fosters, volunteers and local
rescues, to treat and rehome thousands of homeless animals every year. Learn more.

Please note: We cannot allow owned dogs to come to the Animal Center to do "meet and greets" with adoptable dogs. Thank you for your understanding!

Thank you for your interest in adopting a kitten! Some kittens that are on stray hold are too young or too small to be placed on our adoption floor; therefore, they are not available to be met by the public until they are old enough, and weigh enough, to be spayed or neutered. Any available kittens that are of age and weight will be on our adoption floor! So please come meet those kittens!

Before surrendering a pet to us...
We encourage you to review some options prior to surrendering your animal. Please bring your driver's license or other form of identification and some proof that you own the animal. Wake County Animal Center does not accept animals from individuals that reside outside of Wake County or from animal centers or organizations outside of Wake County. Due to limited shelter space, we can only accept animals from Wake County residents. Learn more.
