Scout Programs
Schedule any of these programs for your troop.
Fulfill some or all of your badge requirements by attending our hands-on programs. Typically, programs are scheduled for school holidays/breaks and weekends.
Registration: A minimum of 10 Scouts is required for each program and a maximum of 25 Scouts per group is accepted to ensure a quality experience. To register, please contact the Group Programs Coordinator, Kaytee Smith, at 919-856-7066 or kaytee.smith@wakegov.com.
All Scouts
Yates Mill Patch Program
Mill Tour Fee: $5/Adult, $3/Senior, $3/Child 7-16, 6 & under are free.
$1 for Yates Mill Patch
Take advantage of our signature patch program at Yates Mill. Scouts will tour the mill, participate in a self-guided scavenger hunt, and learn about Yates Mill’s history. This program is offered on the weekends. Reservations are required.
Brownies
Listening to the Past
Guided – $5/Scout
When you listen to the past, what will you hear? Yates Mill has a story to tell and we want you to hear it. Play games of the past, hear community stories, and have a guided tour of Yates Mill.
Eco-Explorers
$25/per group/per one hour program
$50/per group/per two hour program
Plants and animals live together in our environment. Learn about habitats, the food chain, and explore the nature all around you!
Water Everywhere
$25/per group/per one hour program
$50/per group/per two hour program
Pledge to conserve water, build a water snooper, and explore the watery habitat of a pond. Learn all about the water, without even having to get wet. Includes outdoor components, recommended for April, May, June, September and October.
Watching Wildlife
$25/per group/per one hour program
$50/per group/per two hour program
Take a closer look at the animals that live in your neighborhood. Learn about ant colonies, observe earthworms, and examine the different kinds of homes animals build.
Junior Scouts
Local Lore
$5/Scout
Girl Scouts will develop the tools needed to explore their own community’s history through its people, places and events. Program includes guided tour of Yates Mill.
Webelos
Forester
$25/per group/per one hour program
$50/per group/per two hour program
Hike the nature trails and learn how to identify the some of the plants and trees found there. Learn about causes and prevention of forest fires, and discover uses for many of our woodland plants.
Naturalist
$25/per group/per one hour program
$50/per group/per two hour program
Explore the nature trails as you learn about endangered species, migration and how to identify poisonous plants and venomous animals in our area.
Historic Yates Mill County Park is part of a partnership that includes Yates Mill Associates, NC State University and Wake County Parks, Recreation & Open Space. As part of this partnership Yates Mill Associates, a non-profit group, is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the historic building. The fee associated with the tour helps financially to preserve and operate the mill for future generations.
