Transport yourself…
    …back to nature
    …back to peace
    …back in time
Paddle around the only bald cypress blackwater swamp habitat in Wake County and you will feel like you’ve stepped back through the ages.

We welcome you to
…paddle on the millpond in non-motorized boat
    …explore the natural areas
    …fish in designated areas
The site, purchased under the Wake County Open Space Program in September 2013, offers:
  • Vehicle access, parking, and unloading area
  • Sheltered picnic tables
  • Access to pond by short pier/dock or from shoreline
  • Access to see the gristmill site foundation
Check out this video of the paddling trail

Download the preserve brochure/map to learn more or pick one up when you arrive!

Don't have a boat? No problem! Rent a kayak from Paddle Creek on Saturdays at the pond (approximately mid-April until October) or contact them to rent a kayak outside of season if you can pick it up from them. Visit their website for more information!

Future projects include a short boardwalk for non-boaters to experience the pond’s environment and an interpretative display next to the mill site foundation.

If you have pictures or information about the gristmill site, please contact us.
