2014 Upcoming Events

Oak View hosts a number of special events throughout the year. This is a list of the upcoming events for 2014. For event information, click on the event in the calendar above, or follow us on Facebook for more updates. If you have any questions about any of these events, call the main park office at 919-250-1013.


4/5: Photographing Poverty: An In Search of A New Deal Guest Speaker event (2 p.m.)*
Historic Oak View County Park welcomes two speakers, Dr. F. Jack Hurley and Travis Long, to explore how poverty is documented through photographs. See more... 

4/26: Antique Automobile Show (10 a.m.–4 p.m.)
View antique cars and watch as a Model T is assembled in record time!

5/3: In Search of A New Deal Film: Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (1 p.m.)*
Join us to watch the American Girl, Kit Kittredge, set during the Great Depression and enjoy some popcorn, too! Bring your own American Girl doll (or any doll) if you wish! See more... 

6/7: In Search of A New Deal Folk Festival (10 a.m.–2 p.m.)*
Join us for an event focusing on 1930s crafts and activities. It's your last chance to see the exhibit on display! See more... 

6/21: Barnyard Birthday Bash (10 a.m.–noon)
Come celebrate the 9th birthday of the goats with us! Enjoy games, activities and, of course, cake!

8/9: A Starlit View: Astronomy Program  (8:30–10:30 p.m.)
Oak View partners with Morehead Planetarium for a program loaded with stories and stargazing.

9/27: Storytelling Festival (11 a.m.–4 p.m.)
Enjoy a day at the park and listen to stories from professional storytellers.

10/4: Heritage Day (10 a.m.–4 p.m.)
An old-time county fair, with music, animals, agricultural displays, crafts, quilt auction and more!

11/1–11/30: Pecan Pickin' Month (Mon.–Sat., 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sun., 1–5 p.m.)
Come on out to harvest a small bag of pecans from our grove, while supplies last.

12/6: Sleigh Rides and Cider (5–7:30 p.m.)
Bring in the holiday season with carriage rides, live music, Ol' Saint Nick, holiday games and activities, and more!

*In Search of A New Deal: Images of NC, 1935–1941 will be on display from February 1 through June 8, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the original exhibit created by Historic Oak View County Park.
