Storytelling Festival

Historic Oak View County Park will again be hosting the annual Storytelling Festival sponsored by Wake County Public Libraries. This year’s public festival will be held Saturday, September 27, and will feature professional storytellers from around the country. The storytellers will be performing at sites spread throughout the park, and will entertain visitors with tall tales, historical stories, legends, folk tales, ghost stories and much more. Bring the whole family and enjoy a day of stories and sun at Historic Oak View. As always, all our events are FREE OF CHARGE!


Heritage Day

October 4, 2008
10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Join us for Heritage Day, a county fair-type event featuring live animals, antique farm equipment displays, reenactors, heritage crafts, live music, antique cars, carriage rides and much more! New this year: a quilt auction with a professional auctioneer at 2 p.m.! Heritage Day is presented in conjunction with the 4-H Youth Fair Day. Food will be available for purchase.


Pecan Pickin' Day

10 a.m.-noon

Historic Oak View invites you to join Bill Bunn, President of the North Carolina Pecan Growers Association and long-time volunteer at Historic Oak View, to learn about our favorite nut, the pecan! Learn about pecans, walk through the grove, participate in activities for kids, enjoy samples and pick some pecans from our very own grove! (Bags will be provided!)


Sleigh Rides and Cider: A Winter Night at Oak View

5-7:30 p.m.

Get in the holiday spirit with your family and Historic Oak View at our annual winter event! Displays and decorations showing “Christmas at Oak View Farm: How they celebrated from 1850 to 1950” will be on view in the Main House. Ride in a horse-drawn carriage through Oak View’s Pecan Grove, listen to Christmas carols in the 1855 farmhouse, drink hot apple cider in the 1825 Plank Kitchen, listen to stories, and, of course, don’t forget to visit with Old St. Nick! This event, as always, is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Please note:
Donations of new clothing, toiletries or canned goods may be placed under the Warming Tree (located in the Farm History Center) and are given to the Battered Women’s Shelter.
