Sails and Trails Camp

Lake Crabtree County Park introduces its first full-day camp experience! Sails and Trails Camp is for campers ages 8-11 who are interested in learning how to sail and in exploring nature. Each day will consist of four hours of sailing instruction and three hours of hands-on environmental education. Adult Sunfish Classes

Evening Adult Sunfish Beginner Sailing Classes (Adult, 12 years old and up)
The Sunfish is a single-handed boat and the most popular boat worldwide. Its basic design and easy handling makes it a great boat to teach sailing to new sailors both young and old. Each day will start off with a lesson and end with reinforced sailing practice on the water. Sessions will focus on learning to tack, jibe and sail to the wind. Each session runs from 5-7 p.m., Mon.-Wed. There is a minimum of 8 people and maximum of 12 people per class, one participant per Sunfish, and minimum of 90 lbs. Evening Adult Sunfish Intermediate Sailing Classes (Adult, 12 years old and up)
If you have taken the Beginner Sailing class with us, this class is for you! You will take the basics you learned and expand on that knowledge, as well as practice new advanced skills. Each session runs from 5-7 p.m., Mon.-Thurs. There is a maximum of 12 people per class, one participant per Sunfish, and minimum of 90 lbs. To register for an evening adult sailing class, please call 460-2723 or fill out and return the Program Registration Form.
Fee: $75 per session.

TEEN Sunfish Classes

TEEN Sunfish Sailing Lessons (12 years old and up)
Teens will learn basic sailing and boat handling, with shore instructions, reinforced by on-the-water drills. Our program will be limited to 12 years and older and minimum of 90 lbs. Sailing lessons are either morning or afternoon. Each lesson runs from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Mon.-Thurs. To register for a TEEN Sunfish class, please fill out and return the TEEN parent packet.
Fee: $120 per session.

Jr. OPTI Sailing Camps

Lake Crabtree County Park has partnered with the Carolina Sailing Foundation to offer these sailing camps for younger students. The OPTI sailboats, provided by the Carolina Sailing Foundation, are excellent for younger sailors. Camps offer several levels and sessions and are taught by US Sailing certified instructors. Level 1 – Introduction to OPTI Sailing
Learn the parts of a sailboat, how it works, and how to rig an OPTI. Students will have the chance to get on the water and sail around marks. Class runs for 4 consecutive days for 4 hours each day, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Appropriate for complete novice sailors ages 8-11. Must know how to swim. Fee: $120 per session.

Level 2 – Basic OPTI Sailing
Review the parts of a sailboat and how it works. Rig your own boat and sail around marks on the lake, going upwind and downwind. Appropriate for students ages 8-11 with little sailing experience but mature enough to be comfortable in a boat by themselves. Four days of instruction for 4 hours each day, 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Will receive credit toward completion of US Sailing "Red Book." Fee: $120 per session.
