Fishing Opportunities

Harris Fishing PierFishing Pier
A handicap-accessible fishing pier is located near the picnic area. The pier was built in cooperation with NC Wildlife Resource Commission, Progress Energy and Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

Fishing Pond
The fishing pond is stocked with channel catfish once a month from May to September. The three-acre pond also contains largemouth bass, bluegill and redear sunfish.

All North Carolina fishing regulations apply.

Borrow a Rod and Reel Program (Tackle Loaner Program)
Wake County Parks and Recreation offers a Fishing Tackle Loaner program in partnership with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

All you have to do is register to be a part of the program by stopping by the park office and filling out an application. Once registered, you will be able to borrow a fishing rod equipped with hook, sinker and bobber. You will have to provide your own bait, so do not forget to bring those worms, grubs or bait of choice!!!

We are also proud to provide fishing equipment for fishermen with limited mobility. We have two closed-faced, battery-powered, spinning reels intended for one-handed use. Equipment is loaned out to registered participants at no cost. You can check the equipment out for the day. Contact the park office for further information on fishing equipment available for people with disabilities!

Harris Lake County Park Disc Retrieval Policy

Please be aware that swimming and wading for the purpose of retrieving discs lost in Harris Lake and in the pond located on the disc golf course are prohibited.

Retrieving discs other than your own for the purpose of collection is also prohibited. Any discs that are found on the course must be returned to their owner. If no contact information is provided, discs will be turned into the Park’s lost and found.

If you find a disc that does not belong to you, please return it to the Park Office or to a park staff member.

Park staff and RADL (Raleigh Area Disc League) will conduct periodic disc retrieval days, at which time owners of discs will be contacted if their disc is found and a contact number is provided on the disc. Discs with no contact information provided will be used in conjunction with disc golf education programs.

Any questions regarding this policy can be directed to the Park Office at:
919-387-4342.
