Volunteers and park staff perform routine maintenance on the following areas:

  • Hog Run Mountain Bike Trail
  • Peninsula Hiking Trail
  • Buckhorn Disc Golf Course
  • Educational Gardens
  • Landscaping

*Each volunteer must complete the Wake County Volunteer Release Form and mail or bring to park before they can begin their volunteer work.

Upcoming Opportunities: 

Longleaf Festival

Volunteer to assist with our 2016 Longleaf Festival!
Saturday, May 21, 2016
Volunteers ages 13 and up are needed to help with children's games, crafts and other educational activities. This festival celebrates the history and importance of the longleaf pine, so activities will be related to this important ecosystem. Desire to have fun and work with kids and adults is important. Volunteers are what make these big events possible! This is a great way to get volunteer hours or just help out in the community.
There are two shifts: 11–3 covers the main event and 10–4 covers the entire event plus setup and breakdown.

11 a.m.–3 p.m.            10 a.m.–4 p.m.
 After registering, you will receive more information about signing up for
one of two training dates on Thursday, May 12 (3–4 p.m. or 4–5 p.m.) 
or Tuesday, May 17 (5–6 p.m. or 6–7 p.m.).
All volunteers must bring a completed and signed

TORC Volunteer Workdays

Please join us for our mountain bike trail workdays. See a current schedule of workdays and RSVP on the TORC meet-up page! Workdays include projects like adding new features, re-routing trails and general trail maintenance. Bring good gloves and work shoes. All tools will be provided. Meet at the Hog Run Bike Trail gravel parking lot. Workdays are three hours.


Stewardship Opportunities

Park staff relies on dedicated volunteers to help maintain the beauty and safety of Harris Lake County Park for its visitors and wildlife. Call to schedule a volunteer opportunity for an individual or group. An educational component is part of the volunteer experience, so call for more details. 

  • Garden Work Day
  • Lake Shoreline Cleanup by Canoe
  • Fishing Pond Cleanup
  • Invasive Species Removal
  • Wood Duck Box Check
  • Bluebird Box Check
Ask about projects for Eagle Scouts, Silver/Gold awards and Scout troops.
