Volunteers and park staff perform routine maintenance on the following areas:

  • Hog Run Mountain Bike Trail
  • Peninsula Hiking Trail
  • Buckhorn Disc Golf Course
  • Educational Gardens
  • Landscaping

*Each volunteer must complete the Wake County Volunteer Release Form and mail or bring to park before they can begin their volunteer work.

 Citizen Science Thursday

Ages: 10 and up
Time: 1:30–3:30 p.m.
FREE but all participants must be registered
through our online system.

Volunteer your time with our monitoring and citizen science projects! Tasks will vary depending on what needs attention. Tasks may include: cleaning or repairing habitat boxes or installing new ones, monitoring our current boxes or assisting with other relevant tasks. Come prepared to learn and work as you help manage our natural resources. This volunteer opportunity is free but registration is required so we know who to expect and can plan accordingly.
Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves and a water bottle.
 
Please print and sign the Volunteer Release and bring to the program.
This release is required for participation.
Meet at the Cypress Shelter unless told otherwise.

TORC Volunteer Workdays

Please join us for our mountain bike trail workdays. See a current schedule of workdays and RSVP on the TORC meet-up page! Workdays include projects like adding new features, re-routing trails and general trail maintenance. Bring good gloves and work shoes. All tools will be provided. Meet at the Hog Run Bike Trail gravel parking lot. Workdays are three hours.
 
 

 

Stewardship Opportunities

Park staff relies on dedicated volunteers to help maintain the beauty and safety of Harris Lake County Park for its visitors and wildlife. Call to schedule a volunteer opportunity for an individual or group. An educational component is part of the volunteer experience, so call for more details. 

 
  • Garden Work Day
  • Lake Shoreline Cleanup by Canoe
  • Fishing Pond Cleanup
  • Invasive Species Removal
  • Wood Duck Box Check
  • Bluebird Box Check
 
   
  
 
 
Ask about projects for Eagle Scouts, Silver/Gold awards and Scout troops.
