Dinner from Dirt

Have you ever thought about where your food comes from? Whether you are a vegetarian or an omnivore, your food depends on soil, microorganisms and the growers that produce food plants and animals. Experiment with soils and irrigation, investigate insects, try your hand at hydroponic farming, and cook using the sun’s energy.

For ages 9–12 years; class sessions are from 1–3 p.m. Fee: $60 for entire semester of 8 sessions.

This natural science education program for children 6–8 years old focuses on concepts relating to earth cycles. Designed for children who are being homeschooled, this program series will meet from 1–3 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. Using works by the clever poet Shel Silverstein to introduce the topic, participants will learn about the life cycles of plants and animals, the water cycle, the geologic/rock cycle, and the “re-cycle.”
