Family Wildlife Series


For truly "wild" families. New this season! Family Wildlife Series programs are open to all ages, although information and activities are most appropriate for ages 5 and up.
Fee: $3/person or $5/family

Preregistration is required. To check for space availability, you may call the Blue Jay Center for Environmental Education at 919-870-4330. To register, you will need to submit a completed registration form and payment by mail or in person.

Sly as a Fox

Foxes figure prominently in fables and legends. Come learn how foxes earned their reputation and find out what foxes are up to this time of year! 

Nuts to You!!
Saturday, October 25, 2-3:30 p.m.
The piedmont woodland harvest is amazing! Nuts, acorns, berries and grapes are just a few examples of the wonderful fruits of the season. Hike to learn how to identify our woodland fruits and hear some interesting lore along the way.

Night Owls and Candle Magic
Saturday, November 22, 6:30-9 p.m. 
Bring the "night owls" in your family to enjoy the magic of a stroll along our luminaria-lined trail as you learn about the late fall seasonal activities of our local owls. Enjoy hot cocoa and a lantern-lit craft project before you go home. FREE and for all ages – (baby backpacks are recommended rather than strollers). No dogs, please. Last "stroll" begins at 8:30 p.m.

Loose as a Goose
Saturday, December 6, 2-3:30 p.m.
Join other families to learn about waterfowl – the differences between ducks and geese, who our wintertime residents are, and how waterfowl make a living in their watery world.
