Kickoff to a Healthy New Year 2011
Event was Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 1–4 p.m.
Folks came out to the American Tobacco Trail to explore the many ways they and their family could keep healthy this year. Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space teamed up with Rex UNC Hospital and the exhibitors listed below to provide ideas and options to help kick off a healthy new year! All the activities were FREE and fun for the whole family. Here were some the highlights of what happened at this year's kickoff event:
Rex UNC Hospitals: Provided FREE health screenings, nutrition advice and skin cancer prevention
Wake County Parks: Guided nature hikes and a scavenger hunt
The Medical Arts School: Gave a relaxing chair massage!
Finish Strong: Shared training tips for marathons and triathlons
Omega Sports: Shared information and demonstration on proper footwear for your sport.
TORC (Triangle Off Road Cyclists): Demonstrated how to get started mountain biking.
Yoga Garden: Explored the health benefits of yoga while learning some yoga stretches.
NC Geocachers: Got you started with the fun activity of geocaching!
New Hope Valley Railroad and Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy: Shared the history of the railroad and its transformation from a railroad to a park.
Cannot forget all the wonderful roasting of marshmallows by the campfire and sipping hot chocolate that we did!!
