Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space has developed plans for its ninth county park, Lake Myra County Park.

Lake Myra County Park, located south of Knightdale and Wendell, is a 224-acre property in the Marks Creek watershed. The former site of a gristmill and general store, the lake was also one of the most popular destinations in the area: through the 1940s it offered visitors a bathhouse, covered dancehall, diving board, and boating facilities. The park will open the lake up again to many recreational opportunities. An Environmental Education Center, day-use shelters, playground, boat rental facility, fishing platforms, nature overlooks, boardwalks, and trails are among the facilities and amenities planned for the park.

Forums

As a part of the master planning process, five community forums were conducted to gather citizen input about the development of the park. The forums offered citizens an opportunity to contribute to park design. Citizens were also invited to share memories, photographs and other memorabilia related to Lake Myra.
