Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 163-231(b), the Board will approve any ballots received by 5 p.m., today, and postmarked on or before the November 2, 2010 Election Day.

As of September 14, 2010, the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council (NCDMAC) is classifying Wake County as Abnormally Dry. NEWS: Wake Closes Lake/Swimming Area Due to High Bacteria, 09/09/2010Wake County has closed recreational swimming areas at Lake Wheeler beach due to elevated levels of bacteria, based on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. The County routinely tests recreational lakes for bacteria and when bacteria levels of enterococci exceed EPA standards, the area is closed to "primary contact recreation," which is swimming or any activity where your head may go underwater. The County samples the lakes weekly each summer.

NEWS: Wake Health Officials Issue Rabies Notice for North Raleigh Residents, 08/30/2010Local health officials have issued a rabies notice for residents and visitors in the vicinity of Victory Church Road in Wake County, between the Durham County line and Boulder Creek Lane, near the Boulder Creek subdivision. A case of rabies was confirmed today, August 30, 2010, in a fox. The fox interacted with four people, including an animal control officer, and all have been referred for medical care.

NEWS: Wake Health Officials Issue Rabies Notice for Fuquay-Varina Residents, 08/25/2010Local health officials have issued a rabies notice for residents and visitors in the vicinity of Stewart Street in Fuquay-Varina, between North Street and Perry Howard Drive. A case of rabies was confirmed today, August 25, 2010, in a raccoon. The raccoon interacted with a unvaccinated dog that will have to be quarantined for six months or euthanized.

Local health officials have issued a rabies notice for residents and visitors in the vicinity of Oxford Green Drive, in the Oxford Green subdivision, near Optimist Farm Drive and Ten Ten Road, in the Swift Creek Township area. A case of rabies was confirmed today, August 23, 2010, in a raccoon. The raccoon interacted with a currently-vaccinated dog that received a booster immediately after the incident.

Wake County Public Libraries will host the traveling exhibit "Held on the Homefront: German POWs in the U.S. 1943–46," which tells the story of German POWs during World War II, on Monday, August 30, through Wednesday, September 1, 2010, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3–6 p.m., at various library locations. The TRACES Bus-eum (bus museum) chronicles the story of POW life during World War II. The event is free and open to the public.
