Flags to be Lowered in Remembrance of Sheriff Baker

In remembrance of former Sheriff John Baker Jr., the Wake County Board of Commissioners has requested that all North Carolina State flags at Wake County facilities be flown at half-staff beginning at noon today (Thursday, November 1, 2007) for a period of one week.
Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Tony Gurley issued the following statement today on the death of former Sheriff John Baker Jr.:
“Sheriff Baker was a great man and a great leader. He gave Wake County the best years of his life, and all our citizens are indebted to him. Sheriff Baker’s compassion and leadership will never be forgotten.”
Former Sheriff John Baker Jr. served Wake County for 24 years, from 1978 to 2002. The North Carolina flag flown at half-staff in front of the Wake County Courthouse will be presented to the Baker family after the week-long memorial.
