Wake County to Offer One-Stop Services to Homeless Citizens

Wake County Human Services will participate in Project Homeless Connect Raleigh on Thursday, October 25, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. This event is part of the national Project Homeless Connect, a one-day one-stop event focused on providing homeless men, women and children with much-needed services. Dental, housing and employment services are some of the areas where people need help in order to
move towards self-sufficiency .
Wake County Commissioner Lindy Brown will host the event and participate in the opening ceremony, planned for 10:30 a.m. She will be joined by Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker, Phillip Mangano, Executive Director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, and two formerly homeless citizens .
“As the weather turns colder, our homeless citizens are vulnerable to a variety of problems,” said Wake County Commissioner Lindy Brown. “I am proud to be part of this event as we provide much-needed services to our citizens and work to end homelessness in Wake County.”
Project Homeless Connect Raleigh will have over 60 services available from a variety of Wake County based programs/agencies to help men, women, children and families experiencing homelessness. Services offered include:
- Haircuts
- Housing
- Food stamps
- Personal Care products
- Employment applications
- Mental health and substance Abuse assistance
- Dental screening
Over 100 volunteers have signed up through the Triangle United Way to help make Raleigh’s Project Homeless Connect a success. Volunteers will serve as greeters, escorts and service assistants throughout the day.
Financial sponsors for Project Homeless Connect Raleigh include: Triangle United Way, Wake County Human Services, Riley Contracting Group Inc. and the N.C. Interagency Council for Coordinating Homeless Programs. Project Homeless Connect Raleigh is part of the Raleigh /Wake County 10-Year Action Plan for Ending and Preventing Homelessness.
