| Wake County Human Services kicked off the 2007 flu and pneumonia prevention season with "Flu Shot Saturday" on October 13. Flu shots were given from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Clinic E of the Wake County Human Services Sunnybrook Building (Public Health Center next to WakeMED, 10 Sunnybrook Road, Raleigh).
Additional clinics will follow at OTHER LOCATIONS . Appointments are not needed.
The shots will be offered free to the following high risk groups.
There will be no charge for flu vaccinations for the following Wake County residents:
- Children age 6 months to 59 months
- Children age 6 months to 18 years old, who are at high risk for complications of flu (example, children with asthma, diabetes, kidney or heart disease, etc.)
- Children age 6 months to 18 years old who live in the same house with an adult who is at high risk for complications of flu (heart disease, kidney disease, lung disease, etc.).
For all others, flu shots are $25 and FluMist, the nasal spray flu vaccine for healthy individuals ages 5- 49, is $40 (cash or check). The cost for pneumonia shots, available at all flu shot clinics, is $50. Medicare Part B covers the cost of flu and pneumonia shots. Human Services will file Medicare Part B for those with traditional Medicare cards. Those with Medicare HMO’s or other providers should make arrangements to pay at the time of service.
Flu shot and Flu Mist clinics are scheduled for the Wake County Commons Building (4011 Carya Drive, Raleigh) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates: October 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 29, 30, and November 5, 6, 13, 19 and 20.
