Public Meetings To Address Little River Water Supply Project
10/26/2007
The Wake County Planning Department, along with community partners, is hosting a series of community meetings to answer questions and get feedback from property owners in the vicinity of the Little River Watershed in eastern Wake County. The first of four planned meetings will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 29, at the Wake County Eastern Regional Center, located at 1002 Dogwood Drive in Zebulon.
The Blue Ribbon Committee on the Future of Wake County recommended accelerating the development of the Little River Reservoir, and the Little River Watershed Protection Workgroup was formed, with representatives from Raleigh, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, Zebulon and the County. The workgroup drafted the Little River Interlocal Agreement (ILA), and in June 2007 County Commissioners directed staff to begin implementing the recommendations identified in the draft ILA.
"The watershed is an environmentally sensitive area, and therefore the agreement addresses development activities such development densities, urban service boundaries, water and sewer services and annexation." said Wake County Planning Director Melanie Wilson. "It is critical to get this future water supply permitted as soon as possible."
Provisions in the ILA will also guide further land use and zoning changes in the watershed. The City of Raleigh voted to approve the ILA on October 2, 2007. The Wake County Planning Department anticipates bringing the final ILA to the Board of Commissioners by January 2008 for final approval.
